Simon and Garfunkel – The Sound of Silence

Published on July 9, 2019

Released in 1966, Paul Simon took 6 months to write The Sound of Silence. The first version was all acoustics and was a flop. The discouraged duo split up with Simon heading to England and Garfunkel headed back to college.

But Columbia Records didn’t give up. Without Simon and Garfunkel knowing, they added electronic instrument tracks to the song and re-released it in a more produced version. This was a huge hit and when Simon and Garfunkel found out, they got back together. And the rest is history.
